Allies’ Support Wane

NYT – The War in Afghanistan, like the late War in Iraq, has lasted too long for many of America’s allies, and as this article notes, America herself who is “looking for a dignified exit.” The four French soldiers killed last week were victims of an increasingly effective tactic used by insurgents, of dressing in Afghan army or police uniforms to strike at westers troops, and sap morale. This form of “war by attrition” is particularly damaging, not militarily necessarily, but because it destroys the West’s will to fight, as Sarkozy’s suspension of combat operations following the incident proved.
